What
is the Tens all about?:
The Tens Festival
evolved to cater for the growing number of overseas
groups attending the Gold Coast Rugby Carnival and requesting
extra matches as part of extended tours. The Tens has
the same credo of "Competitiveness, Sportsmanship,
Friendship", only we play with 10 aside - a good
opportunity to stretch the legs, but not as wide open
as Sevens. Tens has a growing reputation as the
most popular form of the game. More structure is required
than in 7's while more space isavailable for those willing
to show off their handling and running skills.
Who usually attends the Tens?:
School age teams
from all around the world, from Under 15 upwards. Local teams
also welcome. If you haven't played Tens, this is a great
chance to give it a try. Club and school teams are both
welcome.
Where are they held?
In the last
two years the Tens have been held at Central
Park Caloundra (formerly Camp Wallaby) but in 2008
the event will be held at the Palam Beach Currumbin
(Alleygators) Rugby Club. The grounds are within
minutes of the Gold Coast airport so that teams arriving
even on the morning of the game can take part if they
wish.
How are the Tens organised?:
Any school or school
age club team is welcome to enter at Open, Under 16 and Under
15 levels, and efforts are made to grade them into pools of
similar standard. The emphasis is on giving players as many
matches as possible and not just on the match results.
Can supporters come along too?
Definitely!
